Dear Students and Parents,
It’s time to be planning for fall lessons already, so I wanted to fill you in on a few details concerning lessons this coming year. I’m looking forward to working with each one of you as we continue to grow together in our learning of musical styles.
LESSON TIMES: I am beginning to work on fall scheduling, so please call or email me as soon as you know your schedule. It would be a great help if you could give me a 1st and 2nd choice on lesson times. Current students will be given first priority on their previous lesson times, and then we will begin to schedule new time slots after that time. You can check my available lesson times on my website under the news and events section. I will update this daily as students schedule lesson times. Thanks for your patience in working out our schedule.
LESSONS START on Tuesday, September 7th..Bring your current books (that includes theory!), and be prepared with the music that was assigned to you over the summer. If you have some new music that you would like to work on this year, bring that with you also. Each student will need to have a sturdy 3-ring notebook (at least 1”) with pockets, a pencil, and four differently colored highlighters at their first lesson.
RECITALS are a great learning experience for performance and listening. Our Christmas Recital will be on Friday, December 17th from 6:00-8:00pm, so mark your calendars now. We will also have some smaller and informal recitals on occasion and students will also have the opportunity to play in more formal recitals arranged by the St. Paul Piano Teachers Association. Dates and times for these events will be announced later.
PRACTICE TIME: Students must arrange time to be at the piano for practice (especially if there are two or more students in the same family). Practicing each week is very important, and crucial to productive lesson times. Students who consistently come unprepared to lessons will be asked to develop and follow through on a practice schedule, or to reconsider taking lessons. Check my links section on my website for some great practice suggestions.
LESSON FEES are due at the beginning of each month, or you can prepay the trimester for a discounted fee. Fees are $21 per lesson per student. (In families of more than two students, the third and fourth students will be charged at $19 per lesson per student). Credit will be given when there is a student too sick to come, or if I must cancel a lesson. No credit will be given for forgotten lessons. Make-up lessons can be arranged when it fits our schedules. Please call in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule.
REGISTRATION fee of $35 per student (for the full year) will be required to help cover the costs of recitals, assignment papers, CD’s, monthly magazines, incentive awards, etc. This fee can be paid in advance, or with the payment of September lessons. (Maximum family registration of $70).
A LESSON/PAYMENT SCHEDULE for the year is posted on my website in the private piano lesson section.
WEBSITE:My website wendyspiano.com contains a wealth of information about lessons, practicing, payments, etc... There is also a section for current students that contains links for composer information for the upcoming year. Links for practice suggestions, rhythm games, and even “you tube” clips of my performances are on the site. Please check it out and pass it on to others that might be interested in music classes and/or lessons. Also, there is a link to my music weblog, where I will post any current news/information for students. You can susbcribe to a feed for this log and get instant updates on the studio.
REFERRALS: Feel free to pass on my information to family or friends interested in piano lessons. You will receive a $21 lesson credit for each person that registers for piano lessons for the upcoming year. I have a limited number of openings for new students so encourage them to call early.
I look forward to seeing you soon! Please feel free to call me throughout the year with any questions/concerns, or helpful ideas that you have about lessons.
